Pair of Art Deco Armchairs by Léon-Émile Bouchet. Ed. Dennery
This refined pair of French Art Deco armchairs was designed by Léon-Émile Bouchet and edited by Dennery around 1930. The model is documented in Intérieurs Français au SAD 1930 and was originally created for Serge Rovinsky, who used the armchairs in the decoration of Nadine Oxnard’s apartment. The design combines elegant restraint with remarkable sophistication. The gently curved backs, rolled armrests, and tapered legs create a silhouette of great fluidity and balance, characteristic of the most refined French decorative arts of the early 1930s. The striped upholstery highlights the purity of the lines and reinforces the vertical rhythm of the composition, while the walnut structure brings warmth and precision to the ensemble. The proportions are particularly harmonious, giving the armchairs a presence that is both graceful and architectural. These armchairs embody the discreet luxury and cultivated elegance associated with the finest Parisian interiors of the Art Deco period. Documented in Intérieurs Présentés au Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, 1930, page 55, Éditions d’Art Charles Moreau, Paris.
