Roto Lamp: overview of the lamp on a sideboard

Roto Lamp by Giacomo Benevelli. Ed. Gaetano Missaglia

This original table lamp from 1970s is made up of two forms that talk and relate to each other according to their contrasts. On the one hand, there is a solid metal base, made of simple and robust shapes that assimilate a casing. It has a clear organic reference. On the other hand, a light-diffusing glass sphere peeks out from inside the piece in a gesture that creates warmth. This is achived due to the temperature of the light and the feeling of shelter. The final results is an harmonious coexistence between a cold material protecting the illuminating spirit of the sculpture. It is one of the most representative pieces of the vast work of the Italian-French sculptor and painter Giacomo Benevelli. Metal as the predominant and integral material, the abstraction of forms and the use of light as a compositional element are some of the features that give credit to one of the greatest exponents of contemporary abstract sculpture.
