Toro Lounge Chair by Luigi Caccia Dominioni. Ed. Azucena
Created in 1973 by Italian architect and designer Luigi Caccia Dominioni for the publisher Azucena, the “Toro” armchair has become one of the iconic creations of 1970s Italian design. Originally conceived for the Monticello Country Club near Milan, the model is distinguished by its generous, enveloping volumes combined with a highly sculptural modern silhouette. Its name, “Toro” (“bull” in Italian), refers to the visible metal elements emerging from the armrests and backrest, symbolically recalling bull horns while also serving as functional handles to move the chair easily. The design plays on the contrast between the soft organic quality of the upholstered forms and the almost architectural precision of its structure. The wide circular seat, tubular armrests, and cylindrical backrest create a piece that is both playful and sophisticated, deeply representative of radical Italian design from the 1970s. Minor visible wear to the fabric.
