Set of 2 Armchairs by Jacques Adnet

This pair of armchairs, attributed to Jacques Adnet, belongs to the French neo-classical current that shaped furniture design from the 1930s to the 1950s. During this period, designers sought a measured balance between modernity and classical heritage, favoring clear forms, controlled proportions, and a restrained sense of elegance. Furniture from these decades reflects a desire for order and permanence, while remaining attentive to comfort and craftsmanship. The design of these armchairs fully embodies this approach. Their volumes are sober and well structured, almost architectural in character. The solid wood armrests, gently curved and carefully finished, recall a classical vocabulary translated into a modern language. Short, sturdy legs provide a grounded presence and reinforce the overall sense of stability, while the silhouette remains free of any decorative excess. The armchairs have been completely restored with great care. They are newly upholstered in a mohair velvet by Pierre Frey, selected for its depth, softness, and durability. This refined textile enhances the proportions of the model without overwhelming them. Presented in excellent condition, these armchairs are equally suited to a contemporary interior or a curated collection, offering a quiet and enduring expression of mid-20th-century French decorative arts.
