Seiz Breur Monumental Oak Sideboard by André Le Picard

With an impressive 324 cm (128.3 in) length, this sideboard by André Le Picard, designed in 1940, asserts a powerful architectural presence, defined by balanced proportions and a highly rigorous use of solid wood. Closely associated with the Seiz Breur movement, Le Picard here explores a synthesis between formal modernity and regional heritage. The composition is structured around a central body flanked by two blocks of drawers, giving the ensemble a calm, almost monumental rhythm. The sculpted doors form the focal point: a deeply carved geometric and curvilinear décor, directly inspired by the stylized Celtic motifs emblematic of Seiz Breur, playing with light and shadow while remaining perfectly legible. The richly carved wooden handles echo this vocabulary in a more restrained expression. Side and top views reveal the quality of craftsmanship: thick panels, precise joinery, and a stepped base. A piece that is both functional, firmly rooted in regional culture, and resolutely sculptural.
