Rustic Bench from Ardèche Region France 1950
We can clearly appreciate the material and intention behind this piece. Nature and human work are seamlessly blended in its design. The bench's wide shape features a light backrest that doesn't overshadow its surroundings. The seat, carved from a single block of wood, as well as the armrests, are also slightly irregular, respecting the organic character of the wood. Rustic details and a light silhouette make it a perfect addition to contemplative spaces, where it serves as a direct point of contact between the organic and the functional. The bench was handcrafted in the Ardèche region of France in the 1950s. It shows the unique skills and craftsmanship of the artisans of the time. Its brutalist shape demonstrates the meticulous attention to detail and respect for natural materials that are hallmarks of French furniture making during this period.
