This pair of French Art Deco armchairs from the 1920s displays a strongly cubist aesthetic, visible in the geometric construction of the volumes, the angular armrests, and the architectural treatment of the structure. The ensemble possesses a bold sculptural presence characteristic of the most daring French decorative creations of the interwar period. The massive yet perfectly balanced forms are softened by the enveloping curves of the backs and by the rich patina of the original velvet upholstery, now marked by time and use.
