Oak Chair with Marquetry - France, 1920

Oak chair from France, dating to the 1920s. The open back comprises two uprights, a horizontal rail and a broad top panel. The wood marquetry features a central diamond linked to two smaller diamonds by fine horizontal lines. A narrow geometric border runs along the top edge of the backrest. The slatted seat sits within a moulded frame. Tapered front legs have vertical grooves, while the brown tones of the wood contrast with the lighter inlaid decoration.
