Manille Écorsé Stool
This “Manille Écorsé” stool, designed by Bernard Govin and produced by Eguizier in the 1970s, is distinguished by its construction entirely made of bent and bound rattan, combining traditional craftsmanship with the experimental sculptural furniture of the period. The flared base, composed of multiple curved rattan rods, creates a light and highly graphic structure, while the circular brown leather seat adds both comfort and contrast. The detailed bindings and balanced proportions give the piece a strong organic and decorative presence. A major figure of French design in the 1960s and 1970s, Bernard Govin developed a highly distinctive visual language centered around natural materials and free-form compositions. The “Manille Écorsé” model remains one of his most recognizable creations, situated somewhere between furniture and sculpture.
