“La Cachette” Sofa – Attr. to Charlotte Perriand

This “La Cachette” sofa, produced in France circa 1960, belongs to the context of the furnishing of Charlotte Perriand’s interior design for the Hôtel La Cachette, without being directly attributable to her hand. It reflects the modernist and functional spirit that defines the project as a whole. Its low, elongated profile emphasizes a strong horizontality, suggesting both stability and the notion of shelter implied by the name. The solid wood structure is fully legible: rounded stretchers, vertical slats, and carefully proportioned joints reveal a clear and restrained constructive logic. Viewed from any angle, the sofa reads as a form of domestic micro-architecture—durable, rational, and deeply rooted in the humanist modernism of postwar France. The sofa is presented with its original cushions; however, reupholstery is recommended. Our in-house workshop can undertake a full restoration, offering fabric options in keeping with the period and the architectural character of the piece.
