Egyptian Blue Modernist Vase by Primavera
This Primavera modernist vase, produced in France around 1924–1925, belongs to the wave of decorative renewal led by the Primavera workshop in the mid-1920s. Its balanced ovoid silhouette reflects the period’s pursuit of purified forms combined with a strong sculptural presence, firmly anchored in the emerging modernist language of the interwar years. The ceramic body is covered with a deep Egyptian blue / Persian turquoise glaze, enlivened by a fine craquelure network that subtly catches the light. The contrast between the luminous surface and the darker, slightly flared rim enhances the vertical tension of the form. This refined chromatic research is characteristic of Primavera and resonates with the contemporary explorations of ceramists such as Lachenal, Cazaux, or Rueland. Signed beneath the base, the vase clearly attests to its Primavera origin. Both decorative and sculptural, it exemplifies the ambition of these interwar productions: to create objects that are accessible yet demanding, where formal modernity, technical mastery, and the expressive richness of glaze converge into a coherent artistic statement.
