This B40 desk by Pierre Chapo, made in the 1980s as a special commission for a director of Banque Populaire, perfectly illustrates the designer’s singular approach, where material and construction prevail over any decorative effect. The composition is built around two solid lateral volumes, supporting a thick, slightly raised top, creating a silhouette that is both structured and fluid. The base, conceived as two independent blocks, incorporates on one side a series of drawers with subtly recessed fronts, and on the other a closed storage unit. This controlled asymmetry contributes to the overall balance while clearly expressing its function. The solid wood, with its warm tones and expressive grain, highlights the precision of the joinery and the care given to proportions.
