Art Deco Lounge Chair by Jules Leleu

This remarkable Art Deco club armchair attributed to Jules Leleu perfectly illustrates the restrained elegance and timeless refinement of French furniture from the 1930s. Through its generous volumes, softened lines, and perfectly balanced proportions, the piece possesses a presence that is at once powerful, inviting, and deeply sophisticated. Entirely reupholstered in a deep blue velvet, the armchair highlights the sculptural purity of its silhouette. The enveloping armrests, subtly rounded angles, and fluid continuity of the lines reflect Jules Leleu’s taste for discreet luxury founded on balanced proportions and exceptional craftsmanship. Resting on small dark stained wooden feet almost concealed within the structure, the armchair displays the low and compact silhouette characteristic of French club chairs from the interwar period. Its refined design, situated at the crossroads of modernized classicism and Art Deco, evokes the sophisticated interiors created for Parisian high society during the era. The model is documented in Mobilier et Décoration, 1948, page 23. The lounge chair is presented with its original fabric ; however, reupholstery is recommended. Our in-house workshop can undertake a full restoration, offering fabric options in keeping with the period and the character of the piece.
