Armchairs by André Arbus

This pair of armchairs is a refined example of the work of André Arbus in France around 1930, illustrating his early exploration of a modern classicism grounded in proportion, structure, and sobriety. The design reflects Arbus’s ability to merge architectural discipline with understated comfort. The armchairs are distinguished by their high, slightly inclined backs and generous, well-balanced seats. The wooden frames are articulated by elegantly curved armrests, whose continuous lines soften the geometry and lend the ensemble a poised, sculptural presence. Ornament is restrained, allowing the clarity of construction and the harmony of proportions to prevail. The upholstery requires renewal. Our in-house atelier can carry out a complete reupholstery, offering a bespoke selection of exceptional fabrics chosen in dialogue with the client.
